Sr. Adult Coed – Building 100 – Room 101

My name is Joe Evett; I serve as Associate Pastor of Senior Adults and Family Care.  I have been serving at The Summit for over nine years.  I have three sons, five grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.  My wife, Dot and I live in the Grayson area.  I originally began teaching a Wednesday night Bible study in August, 2004 and then began teaching the Senior Adult Sunday School two years later.  The Senior Adult Sunday School enjoys indepth verse by verse Bible study with open discussion and class handouts; currently we are studying 1 Peter.  Outside of the class, we have lead a ministry effort to prepare meals for the homeless and hungry in Forest Park, GA (we’ve been preparing quarterly meals for eight years for about 250-300 people with the help of senior adults from other classes and the congregation).  We enjoy monthly meals on the 3rd Friday of each month ~ either here in our dining room or at a nearby restaurant.  If you are looking for a senior adult group to join, please stop by and visit our class.  We meet in Room 101 at 9:00 am on Sundays and in Room 102 on Wednesday nights at 6:30.  We are currently studying the Book of John on Wednesday nights.

 Sr. Adult Ladies – Building 100 – Room 102

My name is Jeanneane Gibbs and I’ve been teaching at Summit Church for 19 years.  I started teaching when our church met in the trailer that is across the parking lot from our sanctuary.  I had only two ladies at that time, now we have around 21 in our class ~ widowers and single ladies ~ age 55+.  They are some of the best praying ladies I’ve ever taught.  They care for one another, look out for one another and most of all they love one another.  We have a prayer team that prays daily.  Our ladies enjoy fellowship with one another; we often meet for breakfast or dinner.  I kid them about Promotion Sunday (each August our Children’s Ministry moves up to the next grade).  Our next promotion will be the “Heavenly Bible Class”.  We have just finished our study on Genesis and Exodus and will now begin in the New Testament, the book of Romans.  We encourage you to visit our class and I’m sure you will want to come back again.  We are always looking forward to what God can and will do for Summit.

Ages 60+ – Building 100 – Room 107 (The Berean Class)

My name is Michael Williams and I am the teacher for the Berean Sunday School at Summit Baptist Church.  I have been married to my wife, Kim, for 28 years.  Our daughter, Courtney, is 25 and married to our son-in-law, James Schaffer.  Our son, Zachary is 21 and a junior at the University of Georgia.  We have been members of Summit for seven years.  During this time, I have served in numerous ministries including youth, deacons, personnel team, and worship choir.  I believe the Bible is the word of God and should be used as a guide for success in life.  My teaching goal is to share God’s word and make it applicable to our daily lives.  Our Sunday School meets at 9:00 am each Sunday in room 107. Please join us as we study God’s word and encourage each other to live boldly for Christ.

Ages 50+ – Building 500

My name is Larry Garner and I am one of the team of Sunday School teachers at The Summit.  I have been at Summit for 14 plus years and have been a Bible teacher for over 30 years.  I am married to my childhood sweetheart for 33 years now.  We have two adult children and two grandchildren.  I am 55 years old and would be considered a local business owner.  The Bible is rich in historical details of seeing the life of the individuals set as an example to us, however, I know that GOD’S word (the Bible) is for us to live by minute by minute.  You would consider my teaching style to be life application where as if you can’t apply it to your life then I don’t teach it.  Our class currently has between 30 and 40 in regular attendance and the age is random as well as marital status.  The average age is about early 40’s to mid 60’s.  We start at 9:00 am on Sunday and finish at 10:00 am and on Wednesday we start at 6:45 pm and end at 7:45 pm.  We would be better off with you in our class (Room 109 on Sundays).  Won’t you please give us a try.

AGES 50+ – Building 100 – Room 108

Hank Rivers’ Sunday School is known as ‘The Climbers” as in Climbing to the “Summit”.  My wife, Angela and I, became leaders of this class in January, 2011.  We currently have 18 members on our class roll.  Although we are considered a “50+ class”, our ages range from late 40’s to mid 70’s.  Our class normally begins with prayer requests and praise, then a short discussion to cover class business.  We then discuss ministry needs inside and outside the class.  Our class currently supports the Pregnancy Resource Center and the Rivers of Mercy – Feed the Hungry Program on a monthly basis.  We are currently using study material from Lifeway ~ Bible Studies for Life, but follow those in specific chronological order.  I conduct the class as a teacher-moderator using an open discussion format.  We are currently studying “Pressure Points” using the book of James.  Our class attempts to stay connected on a monthly basis with a class social involving movies, cookouts, dinners together or sometimes meeting at someone’s home.  As class members, we lift each other up in prayer on a weekly basis.  We stay connected by using an updated Sunday School list which includes specifics such as phone numbers, email, birthdays and anniversaries.  We love our class, but most of all we love each other, but more importantly, we love our Lord and Savior.

Ages 30+ – Building 100 – Room 106

We are a bunch of Jesus Freaks!  You know that verse in the Bible that talks about being “a peculiar people?”  Well, you found us.  We come from all walks of life: We are made up of entrepreneurs and laborers, corporates and homemakers, nerds and preps.  Most of us are married with kids, but don’t think of it as a prerequisite for attendance.  Bulldogs are the majority but we also have a healthy share of Tigers and Jackets.  You should not think of us as divided, however, we are just diverse.  At the end of the day, we are one body, called in one hope, serving one Lord (Jesus Christ), in one faith, through one baptism, under One God and Father of all, who is above all!  We like to dig deep in Bible study, alternating between relevant topical discussion and verse by verse studies of the Biblical books.  We are family, and if you are ready for us, we are ready for you.  The Lord’s Supper is available every Sunday.  Seth and Naco Parr

 Ladies (all ages) – Building 100 – Room 104
My name is Kyleigh Brown and I lead the “Ladies Sunday School”. I am originally from South Africa but have lived here for 11 years now and became a citizen last year.  I have been married to my husband for 29 years and we have four wonderful sons, one daughter-in-law, and another soon to be daughter-in-law and a granddaughter on the way.  I have been a member of Summit since 2005 and I’ve lead this Ladies Sunday School class since 2009.  We are a mixed group of ladies of varying ages.  Some are single, divorced, or just ladies whose husbands don’t attend church on a regular basis due to work schedules or are working or serving elsewhere within the church.  All ladies are welcome to attend.  As a Sunday School it is our aim to study God’s Word, apply it to our lives, and share it with others.  We welcome any lady who needs the warmth, comfort and support of other understanding and loving women, while growing in the knowledge and wisdom of the Lord.  We also have a heart to reach out to our community in any way we can believing that we have people in our community that are in need and living in spiritual darkness.  We believe that our faith is validated by works of love and compassion for our neighbors.  We are currently collecting food items to support a local charity organization known as Shepherd’s Staff and we are discussing and looking for other ways to serve our community.  We begin our class with prayer requests, praises and prayers, and a time of catching up with each other.  Then, we move into our lesson and discuss how it’s applicable to our lives currently. Each lesson has spoken to, or awakened our spirit to see through the eyes of James.  We are currently studying the book of James by Elizabeth George.  I welcome discussions and questions and input from all the ladies as I believe we learn from this and I believe it helps to cement what we have learned.  We invite you to visit our class and experience the warmth and love that we share.  We have not yet had a social but we are discussing a visit to “The Mudpatch” to spend an afternoon painting and socializing with each other.  Please consider our class…we look forward to meeting you and we welcome you.

Young Married – Building 100 – Room 103
My name is Elliott Noll.  My wife, Misty, and I joined Summit in January, 2014 and I began helping with connect leadership at the beginning of summer, 2014 and started leading this group at the end of June, 2014.  Misty and I have been married since 1997 and have a little girl.  We, through the troubles that life brings, were divorced from each other in 2001.  Under heavy conviction from the HOLY SPIRIT we remarried five years later.  We are real people with real problems trying diligently to live our lives and raise our child under the same conviction that would not allow us to live separate lives.  In class, we are currently in a deep verse by verse study in the books John 1, 2, 3 and Revelation.  Our class enjoys open discussion and participation is much appreciated but by no means required.  My goal as a Sunday School leader is to somehow encourage and/or aid in the personal spiritual growth of every member that Jesus allows me to come in contact with.  It is my sincere personal belief that Jesus plus nothing equals everything and I try to live the best I can by the Commands that Jesus gave us in Matthew 22:34-40.  It would be my honor and great joy for you to come and join us on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am to learn and grow in the HOLY SPIRIT with us.

College/Young Adults – Building 600, Room 600

The College/Young Adult Ministry at Summit ranges in age from graduating High School Seniors to 25.  We meet on Sunday mornings at 9:00 and Wednesday nights at 7:00.  We welcome all visitors whether you live nearby, you’re home from college for a short time, interning in the area or looking for a place to feel welcomed and make Christian friends.  Our goal is to teach and grow more like Christ in our day to day activities.  Our teachers strive to engage learning and application of Biblical truth through topic driven open discussions, in depth Bible study and video assisted classes.  We provide many opportunities to learn more about God’s Word, respond in worship, serve others, share our faith, and connect with a great group  of friends.  This class is lead by Ricky and Lisa Brooks.

 Singles – Building 600 – Room 601

The Summit Baptist Young Adult Singles ministry desires to see men and women develop spiritually through sharing in God’s Word together each week.  We have a heart to seek out men and women in our community that are at this season in life and to invest in each other’s lives in a way that will matter in eternity.  We pray for spiritual awakening in our lives, in our church, in our city and around the world.  We want to invite you to join us as we seek our Lord along this journey through life and we see our lives changed for the Kingdom of God. We are currently studying The Gospel Project study.  Each week we meet at 9:00 am and begin our time of prayer and Bible study around 9:15 am. We encourage each Young Adult Single to get involved in Worship at Summit Baptist immediately following our Sunday School hour.
